On the occasion of 89th Founding Anniversary of Chittagong Diocese, 117 faithful including priests, religious and laity gathered in the Chittagong Cathedral Parish hall room on 24th May 2016 from Cathedral, Jamalkhan and Diang parishes. In this year’s anniversary, a significant number of youth participated.
Bishop of Chittagong Catholic Diocese Most Rev.
Moses Costa, CSC presided over the event which was moderated by the secretary of diocesan pastoral service team Mr. Mickey Paul Gonsalves. “God has created man and woman in his own image and likeness. Every baptized person has received the sanctifying grace, i.e., the life of communion of the Holy Trinity. Chittagong Diocese as community of baptized persons is called to grow and live faithfully the life of communion of the Holy Trinity.” said the prelate while sharing on the vision of the diocese.
The bishop announced seven pastoral priorities of the diocese to make the vision a reality. The priorities are: catechesis and faith formation, education and culture, organizational development, economic empowerment, health care, promotion of harmony and peace and reaching out new places and communities (evangelization).
Participants shared good reflection on the presentation of the ordinary followed by his speech. Especially the youth are much motivated. The inspiration led them to raise a handsome fund of BDT 45,000.00 to support victims of food crisis in Thanchi which is the remotest parish in Chittagong Hill Tracts.
This is to be noted that Chittagong has emerged as a diocese on 25th May 1927. Because of some unavoidable reasons, the anniversary is celebrated on 24th May 2016.
